Meet Lexa Shoar, PsyD: The Newest Member of the Paradigm Psychology Team
I'm so happy to introduce you to Lexa Shoar, PsyD, the newest doctor joining Paradigm Psychology.
I don't say this lightly. When I bring someone onto this team, I'm looking for more than credentials. I'm looking for someone who understands people at a deeper level, who can hold space for the parts of us we don't show at work or on social media, and who brings real insight instead of surface-level interventions. When I first spoke with Dr. Lexa I knew she was exactly that. Her friendly demeanor is disarming and her confidence and passion for helping others is unmatched.
She specializes in trauma, anxiety, attachment wounds, and relationship challenges, particularly in high-achieving adults. If you've ever wondered why you can succeed at almost everything except feeling secure in love, she's the person you want in your corner. Her clients tend to be people who look like they have it all figured out. Successful careers. Full calendars. Impressive résumés. And underneath all of it, a quiet voice asking why confidence disappears the moment things get close, personal, or vulnerable.
That gap, between how put together someone looks and how unsteady they can feel inside, is exactly where Dr. Lexa's work lives.
She practices from a psychodynamic and attachment-based perspective, which means she's not just treating symptoms. She's helping people understand where their patterns came from in the first place. Childhood experiences. Family dynamics. Past relationships that left a mark. She's also trained in EMDR and integrates trauma-focused work when it fits a client's goals, so her approach is both insight-driven and practical. I have been extremely impressed at how quickly she is able to build rapport with clients which is crucial for EMDR to be effective.
What I find most compelling about Dr. Lexa is her own story. While earning her doctorate, she was also working as a high fashion model. Talk about living the exact tension she now helps her clients untangle! She knows firsthand what it feels like to carry an image of success on the outside while privately managing high expectations from others while battling her own perfectionism. That's not something you learn from a textbook. That's lived experience, and it shows up in the way she connects with clients.
She's also the daughter of immigrants, and she brings a genuinely culturally attuned lens to her work. She creates a space where people from all backgrounds feel understood, not just accommodated.
Dr. Lexa earned her Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences from UC Irvine, studied Human Development at Columbia, completed her Master's in Psychology at Pepperdine, and received her Psy.D. from California Southern University. She's a Registered Psychological Associate practicing under my supervision.
If you've been curious about starting therapy, or if you've been waiting for a clinician who really gets the high-achiever-on-the-outside, quietly-struggling-on-the-inside experience, I'd love for you to meet Dr. Lexa.
She's currently accepting new clients virtually, throughout California. Reach out to schedule a consultation and see if she's the right fit for you.
Welcome to the team, Dr. Lexa. We're lucky to have you.
